Google Search Syntax - special syntaxes

Most of us have been using Google for a long time. Do you know that you can put in more than just search terms? It makes your search more efficient by using special syntax. Since Google is a full search engine, it searches not only titles and meta-tags, but also body copy, links and everything else associated with the page. As a result, you can find a lot more information about inbound linking and searching. These special syntax are usually proceeded with a colon (:).

Google Search Syntax - using boolean

Most of us have been using Google for a long time. Do you know that you can put in more than just search terms? It makes your search more efficient by using Boolean terms.

The Value of Partnerships

We like to think that we are partners with our clients. In fact, this is so important to us that we usually start our pitch to potential clients stressing this fact. Unfortunately, the word “partnership” has been thrown around so often and so carelessly that it ceased to have much meaning. To us, partnership means to be integrally involved in the business of our clients. We would like to be the “marketing arm” of our clients; we would like to share in the success (and failures) of our clients. Admittedly, this does not happen often. However, when it does and the opportunity avails itself, the synergetic effects are astounding.

New newsletter series is started!

I have decided to start a new series of newsletters to talk about strategic marketing. I'm not sure how well received it is going to be, but I suspect it might be interesting for some people. I have already received several nice comments from people who received the introduction. If you are not on the mailing list, you should sign up. After all, it's mainly for your benefit and education.

Sign up here:
Social Media Online Privacy - sometimes you need to be reminded

Remember the "good old days" where everyone was paranoid about giving away credit card information on the web? It was not long ago where most people are apprehensive about buying online and putting their credit card information on an unknown website. Today, we have swung to the other end of the spectrum where no one seems to pay attention to online privacy anymore. It is amazing how many people put their most lives online without thought of who might be reading them...

Some factors which may impact SEO ranking that you may not think about

I have always told my clients that no one really knows how ranking on search engines really work. All search engine algorithms are proprietary and as a result, no one can tell what factors really impact site ranking. However, as search engine optimization experts, we make really good guesses. The game is based on who can guess better. Ultimately, it is the results of the effort that counts.

I was reading an article that lists some factors that may impact your SEO ranking. The article lists 111 items, but here are some which I thought is not so obvious and rather debatable; while others are obvious (duh! factor). However, it definitely provides food for consideration...

Is Social Media a Fad?

It's been a while since I have updated my blog. It could be a good thing or bad thing, I suppose since we've been busy doing many new and interesting things.

Social media has always been on top of our minds lately, even more than search marketing or mobile marketing. Everyone seems to be jumping on board. I also get emails from friends, vendors, clients and competitors about their social media efforts.

Looking for a programming intern

We are by no means a big company. One of the things I really love about Evolution Point is tha we are a small, dedicated, passionate company who loves the things we do. As a result, we do not hire very often.

However, we do take in interns every other year. There are a few reasons for this: one, we try to give back to the community by providing people the opportunity to learn from us; second, we try to learn from them and see how they use the internet. And ultimately, it's a win-win situation for all.
