Have you ever thought about your cellphone? I’m sure you do! Yes, it is a ubiquitous, pervasive electronic equipment that is around all the time and probably annoys you when it is missing or doesn’t work. From a marketing standpoint, the cellphone creates opportunities for one-to-one marketing that no other piece of equipment ever will. The cellphone has several characteristics that promote one-to-one marketing. The first is that it is pervasive. Most people in America hold a cellphone today. In 2010, the cellphone has 96% penetration and 26.6% of all households are totally wireless (http://www.ctia.org/advocacy/research/index.cfm/aid/10323). The second is that it is highly personable. Cellphones are not created to be shared by multiple people, and are usually owned just by one individual. The third is that it is mobile – we carry it everywhere we go. And finally, cellphones are traceable either via the unique cellphone number or by location. All this makes creates opportunities for one-to-one marketing that you may use to provide products and services.
